Description
Red Wine by Philip Togni from Napa Valley, California. 2017 was their 35th harvest. The year began quite normally and they had favorable growing conditions, in spite of being challenged by some very hot days during the summer. By sequencing the pruning of the vines in the winter and early spring, they are able to reach the correct levels of ripeness in all of their vineyard blocks within a period of one to two weeks. 2017 was no different, and they picked the grapes September 28th through October 3rd. When the Tubbs Fire began on October 8th, all the grapes were safely in tank. Additional catastrophic fires in Napa and Sonoma counties burned on three sides of them over the next several days, with the closest fire burning within four miles of their vineyard. While they did lose power for just over a day, the fermentations were thankfully not impacted.
