Where many of the North Coast’s Pinot Noirs offer bright strawberry and raspberry notes, Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot’s tend to be deep, earthy, and spicy. The 2012 is no exception, with raspberry notes that tend more to red than black, aromas of forest floor and smoke, and a hint of clove or licorice to finish. Classic Pinot Noir deserves classic food. This Pinot is light enough to complement rich, smoky grilled salmon but is equally at home with thinly sliced carpaccio with a touch of truffle oil.
